Some Precious Moments

Yesterday I let my daughter watch Dora a second time after dinner so I could cut her fingernails.  I’m always doing something while she watches TV, but this time, after I finished cutting her nails, I just sat with her in my lap, hugged her and watched with her.  She turned to me and said “I’m happy!” (she rarely does this).  I smiled and said “I’m happy too” and almost had a tear in my eye.

That moment made me think of other precious moments with my kids.  Like the time we introduced my daughter to Elmo and she was extremely suspicious of him and careful to check him out to see what he was about.  I snapped these shots of her and they still make me laugh to this day:

..and the time my baby boy was just a wee one sleeping in his bassinet, my daughter would take the stool and position it in front so she could climb up and peer over the edge and watch him sleeping.  I can’t find a picture of this but it’s ingrained in my memory hopefully forever.

..and just the other day my daughter was jumping on the ottoman screaming “Look at me Kai!!” to try to get him to laugh.  I hope they’ll get along when they’re older because it’s so nice to see the two of them laughing together!

Thinking about these moments reminds me to step away from the daily (evening) grind of cooking, cleaning, tidying, laundry, planning for the next day (even if it’s only for a few minutes at a time), and really cherish the time I have with my kids because, as all the older people keep telling me, before I know it they will be all grown up. <sniff.>
