Activities We Did:
We played on the playground equipment, had some fun in the splash pad, and had a pic-nic under a big tree in the huge grassy field.
Good to Go!:
This is a very big green space with a walking path dividing it in two. There are big trees (including the biggest weeping willow I’ve ever seen – great for photos). It’s the perfect parc, so pack a lunch, your swimsuit, and make a day out of it!
The park has a big playground with equipment for all ages. 2 baby swings, 2 big kid swings and 2 big kid swings on springs: something I haven’t seen at any other park in the city!
There are 3 or 4 pieces of equipment that are gymnastic theme – It’s perfect for school aged kids.
At the other end there’s the toddler equipment including a rope-climbing structure, a 2 seat bouncy horse, a 4 seat teeter totter, and a very fun climbing structure with 4 slides (2 of them are tandem!).
There are a few benches around the park for parents to sit, but most people I’ve seen ther bring a blanket and find a spot in the grass under the trees.
On the other side of the walking path, just across from the play area their is the splash pad. It dosen’t look like much but once you turn it on you’ll like it! 3 big sprays shoot up into the air and back down on 70% of the splash pad. It’s really fun to run through, especially since you can choose if you want to be soaked or just lightly rained on. There is a kind of rock formation seating area in a semi-circle around the splash pad. The base of the splash pad is made out of that rubber stuff that you find in many playgrounds, and it is in need of repair (some sections are missing, or coming off).
Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:
There are no washrooms on site (but hardly any Toronto parks have them, so it’s not really a negative)
Quick Tips for Others:
The base of the playground is wood mulch, so I recommend having closed shoes because it tends to get into sandals and open shoes. But it’s great if you bring a small bucket and shovel, or some tonka style trucks to play with in this medium.
There are lot’s of trees in the park, but the playground is mostly in direct sunlight, so don’t forget your hats and sunblock.
There is free parking along Willowdale avenue, and the park is a short walk away using the walking path (stroller friendly). You can also take the Sheppard bus, and get off at the Willowdale stop. Just walk south for about 5 minutes and you’ll see the entrance to the park.
Bring a kite or bubbles or any other toys you might want to use in a wide open space
