I registered my 2 year old daughter and within 2 sessions they advised us that the school is closed. I have been trying to get the refund back since then. They kept saying that they will be mailing a check soon but it hasn’t come in yet. Now i went to their website today and it says they have shut down. Tried calling them and noone is picking the phone and voice mail is full. This is such a horrible business practice. They knew full well, what was happening and still kept taking students and now don’t want to return the money. I will also be contacting VISA later to discuss this situation.
I am disappointed that I received a poorly written explanation in the mail with only one receipt for the Spring session. I have called to get the winter one but NO ONE responds to those messages.
I will have to call VISA soon to see if I can get my money back from the Spring session. Too bad they had to act underhandedly to close their school down. Whatever this situation is it puts a bad light on their 16 years of service to the community. I’m not happy to be out of $400 and not being respectfully warned before their abrupt closing.
I am not happy with how this all played out. We wanted to say thank you to our instructors Nelson and Pam! Our kids were doing a great job with them.
I received a letter in the mail with one receipt for the spring but none for the winter. Did anyone else get the same letter?
Has anyone had success with VISA? I will be calling with the same complaint.
Here is our experience: We registered for the spring sessions as well(for two kids). On Tuesday, 1 hour prior to our class we received a call – pool closed- check website. At that time the website still mentioned that the new school location didn’t work out and that after 20 years of business, they had to close the doors. Of course, no word about refunds.
I had Rob’s – now the former GM of Eunice’s. The automatic reply was that he had resigned and Eunice is now the only point of contact. It had listed her home phone number and her cell phone number. I called and left a voice mail on her home and cell phone number. The next day, her home phone was “not assigned” and i left another voice mail on her cell phone number. I went to the police, they said it is a small claim issue, not a fraud ???????.
At one point this week, she changed her voice mail on her cell phone, but of course no call back.
I did a reverse look-up of her home phone number and found a home near Fairview Mall. We went there today and it is all vacant and ready for demolition.
We went to the police again and this time it was explained again, that she probably declared bankruptcy and there is nothing we can do, other than to file a claim at the small claim court – which costs a lot of money and time and effort.
I am very disappointed, didn’t expect this. After being loyal and moving to the new location, they didn’t get the dignity to call and at least explain what and how it happened and offer us the refund. She is 76 years old. She doesn’t care about her credit anymore, so i am sure she will probably enjoy the balance of her years in a relaxing place thanks to our money.
I called Consumer Protection branch. Province of Ontario. They recommend everyone should file a formal complaint. Their number is 416-326-88-00 I did file it over the phone. Please do call and they will investigate. The swim school really is scamming us an it is not right!!
Based on the comments here, I also called my credit card company. They have temporarily refunded my money (pro-rated based on classes attended) and filed a formal dispute with the swim school and it’s bank. Fingers crossed. Thanks to those who shared this approach!
I learned that this company operates under a different name as well: TayFam Enterprises. Check out their profile on zoominfo.com if you want to learn more.
I’ve lost money too. I am going to fight this, if only on principle. I am looking into taking this to Small Claims Court. Perhaps if a group of us got together, we would be more successful – and be able to share whatever work and cost is involved. I don’t want to put my personal email on this website though. Any interest in organizing? Any ideas in how we can do this while protecting our privacy?
Just a suggestion- you could create a new gmail account and use it only for this purpose. Ask others to email that gmail account. That way you’re not putting your personal email up on the website.
Does anybody know if in these cases there is any chance to get our money back?
It’s just a sad situation especially that their instructors were really good.
We are in the same boat – $800 for 2 kids – attended 1 lesson. I just got off the phone with Visa – might be some recourse there – they are looking into it and filing a dispute for an amount equivalent to the remaining lessons. Not sure if the fact that the transaction was processed over the phone has some bearing (i.e. no signature).
I am so angry. After just 2 lessons from Spring Session no more swim school. I want my money back! They even don’t have courage to call people and explain the situation and to return what is not theirs. No contact number, voice mail is full, no e-mail, nothing!!!!
FYI – I called VISA and I have opened a dispute and apparently not the first one to do so. All I have to do is call both numbers that they gave me and confirm that Eunice will not be honoring memberships at her 2nd location. I had no idea there was a second location but I did as VISA instructed and got two full mailboxes. I am going to be calling them to confirm that my lessons will not be honored at either location. I recommend you all do the same! The more disputes the credit card companies the receive, the better change we all have at getting our money back
Hi,
I am in the same boat as the other posters here. I paid for lessons for my 2 daughters and they shut down after only one session. I have also submitted a complaint to the BBB. I would like to pursue a refund. This has been handled terribly – they took payment one week before shutting down.
I called the credit card company to dispute the charge. It was fairly easy, I gave them the website and they asked that I call the two numbers that they had on file and confirm that the lessons will not be honored at another pool. I called the numbers and both mailboxes were full. I am going to call VISA tonight and proceed with the dispute.
I am just writing to make people aware that Eunices’s swim school has apparently shut down. After only two of the ten lessons that we paid for my son there was a notice on the door that there is no more Eunice’s swim school. Their website is down also.
Of the people we talked to with children enrolled no one was contacted prior to today’s closure (April 21/2013).
We are hoping to contact some one and inquire about having a refund for the remaining lessons which will not be given. If there is anyone out there with any information that could help us and others who have been left high and dry please submit to this site.
Thanks
I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I know she is no longer in business but maybe the complaints will get to her. I am also going to call my credit card company.
I am interested in pursuing this on principle. It was handled so poorly. I even called on April 4th to confirm our enrolment and remind her that we would miss the first 2 classes because we were on vacation.
Had my son enrolled in the spring session that appears to have ended, without any notice. Looking for ways to get our money back and other recommended swim schools I could enrol in.
Myself and 2 other friends were also registered in the Sprng 2013 program and did not even receive a phone call about the program ending…and their voice mail is full and website is offline now. We paid with credit card and I will see tomorrow if they will offer a refund as I know that is possible at times with fraudulant vendors charging for goods or services not received. The challenge is we did receive 2 classes so I am not sure where this will fall. I will post the outcome for those that are in the same situation and also see what others are suggesting.
Good luck to everyone.
As is the experience of other parents we have paid for lessons our 2yo did not receive, got 2 of the 10 promised lessons. The lack of contact is whats most frustrating. We attended Eunices for 3 sessions in his first year and he was so excited to go back. We’d had a great experience so wanted to support the school when they moved. We are really dissappointed and are hoping for a refund as we have no spare funds to pay for lessons elsewhere if we can’t get this money back. If they haven’t filed for bankruptcy I may report it as a theft with police and see if we can recover it that way. If anyone has any ideas please post and share!!
Are you parent/guardian of a child enrolled in Spring 2013 session? Or instructor?
If you are owed some money after the school abruptly closed, without offering any refund or contact information, and are willing to do something about it, please leave a comment.
I would like to somehow seek a refund. I’ve filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but if there’s anything else I can do, let me know.
Thanks!
Hi, I’m in the same boat as the other posters here – paid for lessons for my two kids and they’ve shot down after only one lesson. I just filed a complaint with the BBB as well. Looking for a way to pursue a refund.
This School used to be in Marlee now they moved to Spadina. We used to go for leisure Swim at Marlee. When they moved we wanted to go but they don’t do Leisure swim anymore and they told me the water is not salted and the temperature is not 90.It is like 84 now.
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND A BIG SCAM!! BEWARE they are LIARS!!….
Had my son there for many years. Received a call stating that “they had maintance problems” and his class was to be resceduled. in reality….they were court ordered to get out!. Tried to contact manager for 2MONTHS and he didnt even call me back. Finally spkoe to him and he LIED about how many classes were going to be refunded. claimed my son had received more than he had attented. Told me “its the nature of the game” as to why this had happened?? By the end of the conversation….he hung up!!!!! WOW…not even mentioning anything about my refund! Tried calling back several of times and no one is picking up the phone. This will happen to you also.
Activities We Did:
Both my kids have been attending this swim school since they were 6 months. In parent&tot, babies were engaged throughout the swim period, splashing hands, kicking legs, dipping ears into the water, encouraged to dive and jump into water.
Good to Go!:
Older kids are taught the basics survival swim skills and advances to next level as they improve. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient and encouraging. Both instructors and front desk staff is accomodating and respects that children sometimes have off days.
Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:
Women’s changeroom, bathrooms/shower stalls are dated and seriously needs updating. It is also very messy when it’s busy. Not sufficient high chairs or change tables for all the parents/babies and children in the room. Parents and kids are practically on top of each other to get changed. The school needs to have a staff member on hand to keep the deck area clean and also the change room clean. Also a few high chairs in the deck area would be of great help to parents with more than one child.
Quick Tips for Others:
The prices are high. Pool is salt water. Due to lack of space and lockers people tend to leave all there stuff on the change tables making it impossible for others to change their kids. I have been going back each year because I have watched my daughter’s water confidence improve since she was 6 months, she’s now 4. My son has been in the water since he was 6 months and is now 17 months. The instructors connection with the kids are excellent.

Activities We Did:
Parent and child swim lessons and leisure swim.
Good to Go!:
The pool is a salt water pool and since I am sensitive to chlorine, I find that a bonus. Lessons start at 4 months and the instructors are very good. The classes aren’t just about singing and bouncing around the water but they actually get your child to go under the water, float on front and back assisted, jump in (for slightly older toddlers) and play games. The water temperature is kept warm most of the time.
Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:
The prices are a little high. The change rooms are downstairs and the pool upstairs which can be a pain with a cold dripping wet child. It has been my experience that phone calls and emails aren’t returned in a timely manner, if at all, so you need to make sure to keep calling back. If it’s a cooler day outside, it can be cold around the pool as it’s glass all around.
Quick Tips for Others:
There are high chairs in the change rooms which is nice to park your child into while you are showering or getting dressed. I used to put a high chair in front of the shower, shower my daughter, wrap her well in a towel and put her into the high chair. Then I would shower and then carry her over to change area. Dress her, park her in chair again, dress myself and off we went. It’s great they have these for younger babies.
There is drop in swim for non members or those not taking lessons, just phone first.
Eunice’s does birthday parties too.
