I found Lindsey through online recommendations and after some googling and reading positive reviews, I decided to give her a call. From day one, she gave me excellent service and answered all my questions, was receptive to my wants and even gave me free cupcakes for tasting which is rare unless you are getting desserts for a wedding. Lindsey also offered to deliver my cakes and cupcakes to my door on the days of the parties (I am using her for 2) for a very nominal charge. I have been shopping around for a while and tried about a dozen bakeries (I love cupcakes) and did online research. Her prices are in line with other bakeries if not a bit less. She does her best to please and her product is fantastic. She uses a real Swiss meringue buttercream made with egg whites, granulated sugar, unsalted butter and vanilla. It is light, creamy and delicious. It doesn’t have any overly sweet grainy taste like many birthday cake frostings or American style buttercreams made with icing sugar, shortening, milk and flavoring. You can definitely tell the difference. Grocery store frostings like Sobey’s contain hydrogenated oils, come out of a pail and the cakes are mixes. With a baker like LIndsey you get fresh, natural and quality products.
Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:
Lindsey is very busy and doesn’t have a storefront. She can take a couple of days to answer emails but always does. You can also go to Gurt’s at anytime to buy some product or get more information.
Quick Tips for Others:
Check out her website and don’t be afraid to ask for what you want if it’s not on the list. I asked for blueberry buttercream and she said yes. She does wonderful cupcake pullapart cakes which are perfect for kids. Ask her not to put the cakes or cupcakes in the fridge (although in the summer it is hot) or make sure you leave them out for a couple of hours if refrigerated as they taste best at room temperature.
You can get great cakes and cupcakes in Toronto and I have had quite a few. What set Lindsey apart for me wasn’t cost as some others are actually the same or less but service. She has given the best customer service imagineable.
