    Good to Go!:

Such a beautiful setting, lots of open, safe space and of course, all the farm animals in your kids’ books!
Great park (Riverdale) for running around, picnicking and strolling just adjacent to the zoo. In addition, the farm is FREE! Easy access by TTC.

    Quick Tips for Others:

Not a lot of parking in the area – use the TTC which is close by.

    Activities We Did:

The farm itself is small but it’s free so it’s hard to complain about that. My daughter loves to follow the roaming chickens and see the colorful ducks. The park is a nice place to picnic and there are always other kids around.

    Good to Go!:

Free but limited parking, animals look well taken care of. The caretakers are very friendly nd are willing to chat with the kids. We have been going at least once a month since the weather has been nice.

    Quick Tips for Others:

    Definitely bring food/ snacks.

Date of Visit: We go all the time
Event/ Program/ Class Name: Halloween, Christmas, Summer, Fall, anytime!

    Activities We Did:

Looking at the animals, playing in the inside play area, crafts, walking around, visiting the Spooky Barn at Halloween and buying a pumpkin, watching the Christmas play…

    Good to Go!:

Excellent field trip in the city. It’s so close and it is free so it is perfect for small kids.

Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:

The hours can end early in the off season. Check the website before you go. Bring food. The food venues aren’t always open.

    Date of Visit: Year round

    Activities We Did:

We last went for the Fall Harvest festival. They had fun activities for all ages and a barbque and corn roast.
We go there a lot to look at the animals. It’s also a great place to take pictures. In the summer there’s a splash pad outside the farm.

    Good to Go!:

The place is great for toddlers. They love to run around and chase the chickens and pet the goats. Parking is easy to find mid week.

Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:

They don’t really sell hot food. You have to go to Parliament or to place across the park to eat.

There’s a play area that the city runs but it has limited hours. It has various toys for the kids to play with and you can book the room for events. Also, there’s a great playground just southwest of the park.

    Date of Visit: June 2011

    Activities We Did:

We checked out the animals, but there wasn’t much to see. A few pigs, chickens, ducks, goats, 1 cow & calf, 1 horse. That’s it.

    Good to Go!:

If you are lucky enough to buy some homemade cookies they are really good!
It’s free, so it’s a nice place to go if you live close by.

Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:

No changing table in the washroom. The washroom is very small so you can’t fit your stroller in there if you’re going without another adult. They often run out of food at the little caffe so be sure to bring your own just in case.
The animals where all so far at the back of their outdoor pins that it was even difficult for young children to notice them.

    Quick Tips for Others:

Free parking south of the park/farm.
If you’re traveling from far away, you may want to also stop off at the Children’s Book Bank down close to Gerrard & Parliament (350 Berkeley Street)

    Activities We Did:

My granddaughter enjoyed the farm animals a lot and we went back and forth between the two barns to look at the piglets, ducks, chicks etc. The animals look well taken care off and the place is clean.

    Good to Go!:

Good for a morning or afternoon and it’s free.

Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:

Not worth going down the steep hill. There is really nothing much there.

    Quick Tips for Others:

    Bring your own food.

    Child's Age: 2 years
    Date of Visit: summer 2011

    Activities We Did:

saw animals, watered plants, coloured pictures, played plastic tractor toys.

    Good to Go!:

They have a great area where children can learn to water plants. Pretty clean farm area, pigs, chickens, goats, rabbit, cows, horses, sheep, ducks. Its FREE!
Next to a large park with picnic benches and wading pool.

Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:

Probably couldnt spend a long time there, not much else to do but look at the few paddocks of farm animals they have. The watering plants area is only open for a couple of hours a couple of days a week.

    Quick Tips for Others:

Wear steady shoes, parts are very hilly.

Great place to go if you want to get out of the house and dont want to spend any money. Kids love the animals.

    Rating:
    Children's Ages: 26 months; 5 months
    Date of Visit: May 2011

    Good to Go!:

    - My daughter had a fun time visiting the animals and going back and forth between the two barns.
    - Farm animals look well taken care of, and the grounds are clean and well-kept.
    - I like that you can bring your own food in and picnic here. Most of the private farms won’t let you bring anything in.

Not so Much/ Suggestions for Improvement:

    - The walk to the Lower Pond to see the pond restoration, one duck, and two turtles wasn’t worth the extra 40 minutes and having to haul toddler and baby back up the big hill with the stroller.
    - Not a lot of food choice and they ran out of sandwiches when we were there, so make sure to pack food of your own!
    - There’s not too much in the Cabbagetown Regent Park Museum. My daughter liked the old doll house, baby carriage and robot toys on display, but then she wanted to play with them so we had to get out of there quickly before she started to get too unruly!

    Quick Tips for Others:

    - Bring food!
    - There’s a nice big park- Riverdale Park West right next to the Farm where you can let the kids run loose The park also has a wading pool and a picnic area you can get a permit for – contact farm@toronto.ca.
