Sportplay & Right To Play’s Free Open House

Right To Play Day at Sportplay Cool-sport Camp at Soccerworld Polson Pier (176 Cherry St)

Sportplay and Right To Play are having a free afternoon open house at their Cool-sport Camp in support of Right To Play. Right To Play’s mission is to improve the lives of children in some of the most disadvantagedareas of the world by using the power of sport and play for development, health and peace.

Kids 5-12 are invited to join us for a free afternoon at Cool-sport Camp. Kids can enjoy an afternoon at camp in support of Right To Play. They can try out some of the fun activities at our Cool-sport Camp including Mini-Putt, Beach Volleyball, Rock Climbing, Soccer and much more! Parents are welcome to stay and watch or drop the kids off.

The Toronto Fringe provides creative opportunities for artists and audiences by producing two important festivals – the Toronto Fringe Festival and the Next Stage Theatre Festival – and by running outreach activities that benefit youth, artists and the theatre community at large. Our home, the Fringe Creation Lab at the Centre for Social Innovation Annex, welcomes independent artists year round, encouraging their creative work by offering them affordable space to make art, congregate and innovate.

Festival of South Asia in Toronto

TD Festival of South Asia along Gerrard Street East (between Greenwood and Coxwell Ave)

From Bhangra to Basmati to Bollywood music, this event has all the ingredients to make festival visitors feel like they’ve traveled the world. The main stage will feature dancing, talent shows, and authentic South Asian cultural programs reflecting Indian, Afghani, Pakistani, Bengali and Sri Lankan cultures. Saturdays in July (7, 14, 21, 28) | 9am – 10am Downtown Toronto

Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Avenue) invites caregivers and children ages 4 to 7 to roll up your sleeves and learn how to mix, grate mash and then eat your delicious creations—using only your hands!

Sniff, taste, touch and play are the key ingredients of this fun and free program.

The program is drop-in, but space is limited to a maximum of 12 children. There is a $5 suggested donation.

Play in Chimney Court

Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Avenue) invites you to escape from the indoors and join us in Chimney Court! Build forts out of wood, clay and snow, split firewood to cook over an open fire and peek into the world of worms and discover how to make soil.

Eco-crafts for Kids

It’s time to slow down and spend some time creating together—upcycling everyday objects into useful and creative art!

Come by the eco-crafts table to make your own wonderful crafts and contribute to the community mural. Kids of all ages are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult. There is a different themed craft each week. There is a $5 suggested donation.

 

2012 Easter Seals Regatta

2012 Easter Seals Regatta at the RCYC Launch (150 Cherry St).

Our annual SoundClash Music Award has morphed into a genre-bending music festival that showcases artists, including the SoundClash Music Award short-listed acts, who are pushing the envelope and contemporary music on culture. Festival of India at Centre Island

On July 14th and 15th, come join us and experience the 40th Annual Festival of India (also known as Ratha-Yatra) in the heart of downtown Toronto. This unique festival launches with a dynamic, high-energy parade down world-famous Yonge Street (beginning at Bloor and continuing south to Queens Quay). The celebrations then shift over to Centre Island for two days of festivities, expected to draw close to 40,000 people. The festival is open to the public and is free for everyone.

At Centre Island festivities include acclaimed music, dance, & drama performances, a bustling South Asian Bazaar, intriguing exhibits on ancient spiritual culture and heritage, traditional face-painting, an outdoor yoga festival-Yoga Meltdown, and a fun-filled and educational children’s area.

CUPE Local 416, in cooperation with Councillor Glen DeBaermaker, will co-host a series of family-oriented movie nights every Friday in July.

To provide a community entertainment experience and showcase Toronto’s parks (which are cared for by CUPE Local 416 members), Councillor DeBaermaker and CUPE Local 416 will offer these free movie nights in city parks across Scarborough. This summer we’re teaching Swim to Survive — basic swimming skills to prevent drowning. Drop-in classes are open to community members of all ages who’d like to learn. You don’t have to be a Y member to take part and no registration is necessary. Swim to Survive teaches you how to survive after an unexpected fall into deep water. You’ll learn to:

  • Roll into deep water
  • Tread water for one minute
  • Swim 50 metres

Mindful Music began in 2010 and was created in partnership with Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) and a talented and dedicated group of teens who use music to support health under their Medicinal Music brand.

Mindful Music is a full-day FREE outdoor festival-style event for all ages which includes live music, Kid Zone and inflatables, Sunflower the Clown will be painting faces and making balloon art, barbeque and food vendors, car show: brought to you by Auto Fest Invitational, Artisan Alley, and to cap it off,  a family film under the stars.

 

The Teddy Bear Train

Sunday July 8 | Stouffville & Uxbridge

York-Durham Heritage Railway

All children who bring their teddy bear or any plush animal ride our train for free! Dr. Bear will be checking out Teddys (and other loved plush animals) during our trips between Uxbridge and Stouffville. The good doctor will be checking to see that your Teddy can give lots more hugs and cuddles.

Children 12 and under ride free when carrying their Teddy Bear (all children with Teddy Bears must be accompanied by an adult with a maximum of 2 children per adult). This special theme train departs on our regular Sunday schedule. Adults are $24 each.

For kids, we have face painting, balloon animals, a toy train to enjoy. We also have an onboard snackbar for refreshments you can enjoy while listening to our onboard trip commentary.

 

10th Annual Dog Days of Scugog

Durham Region’s largest dog event marks its ninth anniversary. A fun-filled day for dogs and their whole family, the Scugog Shores Museum Village is expecting more than 2,500 dogs, their owners and interested spectators to join in the weekend-long fun that aims to promote the proper training and care of dogs and to celebrate the joy of sharing our lives with our canine friends.

 

Bird Walk

Red birds, blue birds, black birds and even green birds can all be found at Pickering Creek Audubon Center. Come out to explore some of our amazing habitats during a guided bird walk. Learn how to identify birds by sight and sound. Plus, find out ways that you can bring birds to your backyard.

Tiny Tot programs are for children ages 2-5 and their caregivers. Each program includes exploring outdoors and hands-on activities, such as crafts, play acting. The programs are provided at no cost to all participants.

Relax in your lawn chair, snuggle up in a blanket, and enjoy the great outdoors while watching movies on a large, outdoor screen. Whitby’s Movies in the Park take place at various parks throughout the summer.

Richmond Hill Canada Day at the Richmond Green Park and Sports Complex (1300 Elgin Mills Road East, Northwest corner of Elgin Mills Road and Leslie Street)

Celebrate Canada’s 145th birthday with your friends and family at Richmond Green Park! Take part in a variety of exciting activities including the children’s village and teen zone, the bavarian garden, multicultural food pavilion, as well as the local artist exhibit and home show, featuring an assortment of local businesses and community groups. There will be also live entertainment throughout the day and when night falls, sit back and enjoy the Region’s largest fireworks display! Fireworks start at 10pm.

Admission is FREE, compliments of Tim Hortons. Visitors are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to help support those in need.

 

Canada Day at Town Park

Canada Day 2012 at Town Park and Lambert Willson Park.

On Saturday enjoy family activities featuring local live talent and beer garden from 7pm – 11pm at Town Park.  And on Sunday enjoy family oriented activities, live entertainment, fireworks and much, much more at Lambert Willson Park! Plus the Aurora Teen Idol Competition.

The parade will start at 10am and end at 11am on Sunday. The parade route will start at Yonge St. and Orchard Heights Blvd. and will run south to Murray Dr.

 

Canada Day at Mount Albert Lion’s Park

City of Vaughan’s Canada Day event at the Mackenzie Glen District Park in Maple (220 Cranston Park Ave).

Features free live concerts and other activities including  an inflatable zone, face painting, zip line excitement, pizza making workshop and more.

 

Celebrations at Milne Dam Conservation Park

Markham Canada Day Celebrations at the Milne Dam Conservation Park (east side of McCowan Road, south of Hwy 7).

Free admission. Features a parade and entertainment. Free children’s activities, live entertainment, food and fireworks display at 10pm.

The Concerts in the Park series has been one of the great joys of summer in Richmond Hill since 1975. Residents are encouraged to come out and enjoy an exciting line-up of musical talent in genres including Blues, Country, Rock and Roll, Celtic, tribute bands, children’s acts and so much more!

On Sunday July 8th, Jack Grunsky will be performing (children’s music genre).

 

The Teddy Bear Train

Sunday July 8 | Stouffville & Uxbridge

York-Durham Heritage Railway

All children who bring their teddy bear or any plush animal ride our train for free! Dr. Bear will be checking out Teddys (and other loved plush animals) during our trips between Uxbridge and Stouffville. The good doctor will be checking to see that your Teddy can give lots more hugs and cuddles.

Children 12 and under ride free when carrying their Teddy Bear (all children with Teddy Bears must be accompanied by an adult with a maximum of 2 children per adult). This special theme train departs on our regular Sunday schedule. Adults are $24 each.

For kids, we have face painting, balloon animals, a toy train to enjoy. We also have an onboard snackbar for refreshments you can enjoy while listening to our onboard trip commentary.

 

Theatre in the Park

Macbeth from the Humber River Shakespeare. Bring family, friend, a picnic and a blanket to watch Macbeth under an evening sky! This is a pay-what-you-can event.

 

Life With A Preschooler Fun Day

Fun Day Party at Richmond Green Sports Centre & Park (1300 Elgin Mills Road East at Leslie)

The Fun Day will include a variety of exciting activities for preschoolers including bouncy castles, face painting, sports, fire truck, arts and crafts, a kids’ building workshop, cupcake decorating, games, dancing and music, story time, car seat clinic, food and refreshments for purchase and so much more…

Life With A Preschooler (LWAP) is designed especially for families with children ages 2 ½ to 6 years old. This is an enhancement to the Life with a Baby (LWAB) program. The new Life with a Preschooler (LWAP) program will offer unique informational workshops, open forums, and fun social events in order to connect and offer support to parents of preschoolers. Paint-A-Thon

Paint-A-Thon at Markham Civic Centre (101 Town Centre Blvd)

Paint-A-Thon is an outdoor public arts event that brings the community together to paint to their hearts’ content  on 4×5 ft large sized canvases!

On Saturday, July 14, 2012, an ordinary outdoor parking lot turns into a mini arts village featuring communal painting, live entertainment and local artisans. Part profits from Paint-A-Thon would be  donated to the event’s beneficiary, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the balance would be used to fund Power Unit Youth Organization’s year-round youth development programs.

The Unity Festival: Markham Around the World

The Unity Festival: Markham Around the World at the Millennium Bandstand on Main Street 

The World Festival is a great opportunity to celebrate and appreciate the music, dance, food and culture from a variety of different ethnic groups in Markham. Our goal is to have this event evolve into a Town-wide festival that will span all of Markham.

Entertainment includes Celtic, Chinese, Bavarian music and more. Free admission.

 

Around the World Multicultural Event

Richmond Hill Ribfest at Richmond Green Park (1300 Elgin Mills Road East)

Featuring professional rib teams travelling to Richmond Hill from across North America to cook and compete for various “Best” titles (as decided by honorary judges). In addition to the many delicious food options, there will also be live entertainment on the Wilson Niblett Motors Stage, the King Henry’s Arms Bavarian Gardens, and a children and toddler’s fun zone with inflatables to enjoy! An indoor children’s activity area will also be available on Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 4 p.m.

 

Camp Dig It!

Saturday July 28 | 9:30am-4pm | Aurora

Camp Hillary – Camp Dig It! at the Hillary House (15372 Yonge Street)

Campers aged 7 – 11 will become archaeologists! They will learn about the importance of archaeology while receiving hands on training from an archaeologist and working on a mock dig. In the afternoon campers will become nature detectives, learning about the trees and plants on the grounds of Hillary House. A game of bug and plant finder will test their nature knowledge further. (Rain Date: August 11th).) $15 per day

 

Swim to Survive

Swim to Survive at the YMCA in Markham (101 YMCA Boulevard)

This summer we’re teaching Swim to Survive — basic swimming skills to prevent drowning. Drop-in classes are open to community members of all ages who’d like to learn. You don’t have to be a Y member to take part and no registration is necessary. Swim to Survive teaches you how to survive after an unexpected fall into deep water. You’ll learn to:

  • Roll into deep water
  • Tread water for one minute
  • Swim 50 metres
